Concerts in Copenhagen, December
Here are the concerts I plan to attend this month:
Tuesday 6th, Loppen: Broken Social Scene
On their new album they turn a bit more towards pop, but I like it a lot. Still loads of those light songs building into grand, complicated pop songs filled with deligthful details. I saw the end of their show at Roskilde '03 and it was really good so I'm looking forward to a full concert. With them are The Most Serene Republic, who debuted this year with an album sounding much like Broken Social Scene, but with a more complex and noisy acoustic image.
Friday 9th, Stengade 30: Locust / Kill Me Tomorrow
Next friday it will get a little more harsh. The Locust play very short, aggressive almost industrial noise rock. They're most definately going to be intense. And before them Kill Me Tomorrow are playing their artpunkfunkcollagegalore. I know that sounds like bullshit, but they're inspired by Sonic Youth, Gang of Four and Captain Beefheart and have very metallic percussion. Go figure. Last years album The Garbageman and the Prostitute was exceptional.
Saturday 10th, Stengade 30: Gogol Bordello
The day after, same place, Gogol Bordello are playing their crazed gypsy punk blended with some dub. Actually it kind of sounds like Bad Brains raping Eastern Europe. The new album is a pretty exciting, fluttering collection of energetic originals. And I've heard they should be something out of the ordinary on stage. The two bands touring with them are not known to me, but I've done a bit of research and they appear to be some kind of garage punk/rockabilly/cowpunk-style bands. We'll see.
Wednesday 14th, Amager Bio: Non Phixion / Jedi Mind Tricks
I actually don't know any of these bands very well and I'm not 100 % positive that I will turn up, but Non Phixion should be some underground, political rap and Jedi Mind Tricks are quite inspired by Wu Tang Clan. Anyhow, it's nice to see some underground rap in Copenhagen so I will probably turn up to support it. Non Phixions show in Munich and Berlin got cancelled because they got screwed by the booker, and it ended in a riot and the arrestment of two of the members. I don't hope that will happen here.
Saturday 17th, Huset i Magstraede arranged by Club Play/Rec: Medications
Club Play/Rec are having their annual Christmas Show and have invited American Medications from Dischord records. They debuted this year with Your Favorite People all in one Place. A melodic indierock/posthardcore album that compensate with brilliant songwriting and eminent teamwork what it lacks in originality. A remarkably easy, freeflowing album with lots of details. Other Play/Rec bands will probably play as well.
